According to a statement issued by the national transporter, Indian Railway’s revenue earnings from passengers increased by 73% from April to January 2023 compared to the same period last year.
According to the sources, the total approximate earnings in the passenger segment for Indian Railways from April to January 2023 are Rs 54,733 crore, a 73% y-o-y increase over the Rs 31,634 crore earned during the same period last year.
In the reserved passenger segment, the total approximate number of passengers booked from April 1 to January 31, 2023, is 6,590 lakh, up from 6,181 lakh during the same period last year, representing a 7% increase.
The revenue generated from the reserved passenger segment from April 1 to January 31, 2023, is Rs42,945 crore, up from Rs29,079 crore during the same period last year, registering an upside of 48%, according to the statement.
In the unreserved passenger segment, the total approximate number of passengers booked from April 1 to January 31, 2023, is 45,180 lakh, up from 19,785 lakh during the same period last year, representing a 128% increase.
The revenue generated from the unreserved passenger segment is Rs11,788 crore from April 1 to January 31, 2023, up 361% from Rs2,555 crore during the same period last year.
