Indian equity indices concluded the trading session on a downward trajectory, halting a three-day winning streak, with the Nifty closing at 22,000.
By the closing bell, the Sensex registered a decline of 361.64 points or 0.50%, settling at 72,470.30, while the Nifty witnessed a downturn of 92.10 points or 0.42%, ending at 22,004.70. Market breadth reflected a mixed sentiment, with 1355 shares advancing, 2447 shares declining, and 122 shares remaining unchanged.
Among the top gainers on the Nifty were Bajaj Finance, Hindalco Industries, Britannia Industries, Adani Ports, and L&T, while notable losers included Power Grid Corporation, Eicher Motors, Bharti Airtel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Wipro.
In terms of sectoral performance, the banking and Information Technology indices witnessed a decline of 0.5% each, while the capital goods, realty, oil & gas, and metal sectors experienced gains ranging from 0.5 to 1%.
The BSE Midcap index saw a rise of 0.7%, whereas the smallcap index concluded the session unchanged.
