Indus Towers Signals Possible Service Limitations for Vodafone Idea Over Unpaid Dues

5 Oct 2023 , 01:37 PM

Indus Towers warns Trai of potential service limitations to Vodafone Idea (Vi) due to outstanding payments and Vi’s continuous defaulting. Vi owes Indus Towers approximately Rs 7,864.5 crore as of September 30, impacting Indus’ financial stability, says Managing Director Prachur Sah.

Indus may restrict services to Vi if payment obligations are not met, emphasizing Vi’s breach of commitments and its financial strain on Indus. Indus highlights potential risks to India’s telecom infrastructure if other customers also delay payments or seek waivers, putting the system’s stability at risk.

The suspension of Indus Towers’ services could worsen Vi’s challenges, already evident in recent subscriber losses as per Trai data. Vi, with about 228 million customers, would face adverse effects if Indus Towers suspends services due to mounting financial pressures.
