JioCinema Taps Former Google Executive Kiran Mani as CEO for Expanding Mobile Reach

JioCinema intends to appoint Kiran Mani, former Google general manager, as its Chief Executive Officer to enhance its mobile customer outreach in India. Kiran Mani previously oversaw Google’s Android operations in the Asia Pacific region and will lead technology development and partnerships with Hollywood studios for JioCinema.

He has begun his role at the company and was an early investor and adviser to James Murdoch and Uday Shankar’s Bodhi Tree investment firm. JioCinema, under its parent company Viacom18 (a joint venture of Reliance Industries Ltd., Paramount Global, and Bodhi Tree), is striving to strengthen its presence in India’s competitive media landscape.

In India, media companies face intense competition, with Google and YouTube being popular platforms. JioCinema has offered free streaming during major cricket tournaments to attract more paying subscribers, with an annual subscription fee of 999 rupees or approximately $12. JioCinema has expanded its content offerings by signing new programming deals with entertainment giants Warner Bros., Discovery Inc., and Comcast Corp.’s NBCUniversal as part of its growth strategy.
