The Solvent Extractors Association or SEA of India noted in a latest update that the overall oilseed crop as reported under the 4th Advance estimate for the crop year 2021-22 is reduced by 8.02 lakh MT to 377 lakh MT from earlier estimate of 385 lakh MT. The main drop is in soybean by 8.3 lakh tonnes and estimated at 130 lakh tonnes compared to 138 lakh metric tonnes earlier. Similarly, sesamum seed production estimate is reduced by 1.0 lakh metric tonne and now reported at 7.7 metric tonnes only. While castor crop is up by 1.0 lakh metric tonne and reported at 16.1 lakh metric tonnes from previous estimate of 15.0 lakh metric tonnes.
Latest weekly data covering khariff sowing during 2022-23, indicates oilseeds acreage is more or less the same as that of last year. However, area under groundnut has reduced by 4.6 lakh hectares and reported at 42.9 lakh hectare compared to 47.5 lakh hectare for the same period last year, replaced by cotton. Area under soybean is reported at 119 lakh hectare compared from 118 lakh hectare last year, while area under castor seed is reported at 4.7 lakh hectare compared from 2.8 hectare last year up by 68%; thanks to high price of castor during the sowing period which encouraged the farmers to go for larger sowing of castor seed.Powered by Capital Market – Live News
