Larsen & Toubro Limited's construction arm secured a contract from the Assam government to build a 12.21 km cable-stayed bridge connecting Palashbari and Sualkuchi towns.
The Public Works Roads Department, Assam, awarded the contract, categorized as 'large,' to L&T without specifying the exact project amount, falling within the range of ₹2,500 Crore to 5,000 Crore.
The bridge project includes a 3.6 km long cable-stayed portion, a 5.61 km approach on the Palashbari side, and a 3 km approach on the Sualkuchi side, incorporating wetland approach viaducts. The extra-dosed cable-stayed portion will have a maximum span of 165 metres.
A cable-stayed bridge structure is designed for aerodynamic efficiency, minimizing the impact of stormy winds. L&T expects to complete the project in 48 months, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying the foundation stone during his visit to the state last year.
The bridge aims to boost connectivity to Sualkuchi, the heritage textile center of Assam, known for producing 'golden silk' using indigenous materials like Muga.
Additionally, the bridge will provide a direct connection to the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) in the state, enhancing overall connectivity.
