On Thursday, a comeback in stocks helped the market capitalization of companies listed on the BSE hit an all-time high of Rs282.66 lakh crore. After declining in the previous two trading days, the 30-share BSE Sensex increased by 659.31 points, or 1.12%, to close at 59,688.22.
The market capitalization of companies listed on the BSE increased to Rs2,82,66,696.92 crore thanks to the recovery in equity markets. On Thursday, investor worth increased by Rs1.79 lakh crore.
The top Sensex gainers included Tech Mahindra, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, State Bank of India, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finserv, IndusInd Bank, and Asian Paints.
Tata Steel, Titan, NTPC, Nestle, and Power Grid were among the laggards. In the overall market, the BSE smallcap index rose 0.60 percent, while the midcap index closed up 0.29 %. 1,402 stocks fell, 2,062 rose, and 125 remained unchanged. While Seoul and Tokyo’s markets finished higher in Asia, Shanghai and Hong Kong’s stocks declined.
During the mid-session trades, stocks in Europe were moving in a range of directions. On Wednesday, US stock markets closed much higher. In the meantime, the benchmark Brent crude price fell globally by 0.49 % to US$87.57 per barrel.
