Beginning on October 1, the state-owned Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Limited (MPPTCL) will use drones to monitor 10,000 high-voltage towers throughout the state, a top company official announced on Monday.
Sunil Tiwari, managing director of MPPTCL, told PTI, “this is the first time in the country that drones are going to be deployed to examine big towers for smooth power supply.”
He said that recordings and up-close photos of the towers would be taken using drones.
Tower inspection is now carried out manually. It takes a lot of time and effort for the workers to climb the towers to inspect the machinery. Now, he claimed, drones would handle this work.
He stated that from the following month, 10,000 of the 80,000 extra high voltage power transmission line towers constructed throughout Madhya Pradesh will be subject to drone surveillance.
He said, “A private company has been contracted to monitor towers using drones, and our engineers will be in charge of that.”
Power is transferred by the MPPTCL from electrical production units to distribution firms, who then provide electricity to homes and businesses.
