Today, Indian benchmark indices experienced a mixed trading session after opening at record highs. Despite reaching new peaks in the initial hour, both Sensex and Nifty 50 remained largely range-bound throughout the day.
Sensex began with a record-high opening at 74,242.74, briefly touching an intraday peak of 74,245.17. However, it closed with modest gains, up by 33.40 points or 0.05% at 74,119.39. Similarly, Nifty 50 commenced at an all-time high of 22,505.30, reaching an intraday peak of 22,525.65, before settling at 22,493.55, up by 19.50 points or 0.09%.
Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Motors, and Bajaj Finance emerged as top gainers on Sensex, while Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance Industries, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, and Power Grid Corp. weighed down the index.
On the Nifty 50, Tata Consumer Products, Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto, UPL, and JSW Steel led the gains, while Mahindra & Mahindra, BPCL, Reliance Industries, Axis Bank, and LTI Mindtree were the major decliners.
Among sectors, the Metal index saw a rise of 1.38%, followed by the FMCG index with a gain of 0.98%. Conversely, the Oil & gas index recorded a decline of 1.20%, and the Bank, Private Bank, Auto, and Realty indices closed in negative territory.
In the broader market, the BSE MidCap index ended up by 0.39%, while the BSE SmallCap index closed higher by 0.70%.
