The Sensex declined by 65.23 points or 0.09% to reach 74,162.40, while the Nifty dropped by 22.80 points or 0.10% to 22,491.90. Market activity included 2082 advancing shares, 1241 declining shares, and 87 shares remaining unchanged.
Sectors witnessing buying activity comprised banks, FMCG, metals, healthcare, and realty, while selling was observed in auto, capital goods, and Information Technology. Both BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices rose by 0.5% each.
Top gainers on the Nifty 50 included HDFC Bank, Dr. Reddy’s, SBI Life, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Divi’s Lab, whereas BPCL, Grasim Industries, Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro, and Bajaj Auto were the top losers.
On the Sensex, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv, and Sun Pharma were the leading gainers, while Larsen & Toubro, Bajaj Finance, UltraTech Cement, Tech Mahindra, and Maruti Suzuki India were the top losers.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers of shares worth ₹1,136.47 Crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) offloaded stocks worth ₹893.11 Crore on April 4, as per provisional data from the NSE.
