The Sensex surged by 212.94 points or 0.29% to reach 72,854.13, while the Nifty climbed by 85.20 points or 0.39% to touch 22,097.20. Advancing shares outnumbered declining ones with 2234 shares advancing, 1020 declining, and 92 remaining unchanged.
Among the various sectors, the IT index was the sole one in the red, declining by 1.97%. Conversely, Media surged by 1.54%, followed by Auto, which rose by 1.36%. Additionally, heavyweight indices such as Pharma, Healthcare, FMCG, Bank, and Oil & Gas displayed positive momentum.
In the broader market, the BSE MidCap index witnessed a 0.22% increase, while the BSE SmallCap index surged by 1.01%.
Notable gainers on the Nifty 50 included UPL, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, Sun Pharma, and Tata Motors, while the top drags comprised HCLTech, Wipro, Infosys, LTIMindtree, and TCS.
On the Sensex, leading gainers were Sun Pharma, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki India, Titan, and Tata Steel, while prominent drags encompassed HCLTech, Wipro, Infosys, TCS, and Tech Mahindra.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) net sold shares worth ₹1,826.97 Crore, whereas domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares valued at ₹3,208.87 Crore on March 21, as per provisional data from the NSE.
