Domestic equity markets ended the week with substantial gains after hitting fresh highs for another consecutive session. Nifty closed 217 points higher. Sensex ended with a gain of 803 points.
In Friday’s session, markets started with marginal gains carrying forward the previous session’s positive trajectory. Later in the day, markets skyrocketed to touch fresh highs.
Today’s rally was fuelled by over a 2% uptick in heavyweights IT and Auto stocks. All other sectoral indices ended the day with modest gains.
Nifty Bank ended 1% higher. Nifty Midcap 50 stocks closed with a gain of 0.86%. India’s VIX eased about 1% in today’s trade.
The gainers’ chart was led by Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys, IndusInd Bank, Sun Pharma, and Hero MotoCorp. Among the biggest losers were Adani Ports, Grasim, Apollo Hospital, HDFC Life, and Adani Enterprises.
Most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Power Grid, and Infosys. In terms of value, the top stocks were HDFC Bank, HDFC, Infosys, Reliance, and ICICI Bank.
A total of 126 stocks hit new 52-week highs, and 14 stocks touched new 52-week lows.
