Indian benchmark indices may start the session with gains. On Friday, markets closed with substantial gains. BSE Sensex ended 847 points higher at 72,568. NSE Nifty closed with a gain of 247 points at 21,894.55.
On the global front, US markets ended the previous session on the flipside. Dow Jones closed 118 points lower. Nasdaq Composite index ended flat. S&P 500 closed with a gain of only 3 points.
Asian equities are trading higher on Monday as China’s central bank surprised investors by postponing a rate drop. Chinese Shanghai Composite is trading 0.51% higher. Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed with a gain of 0.83%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is trading 0.14% higher. South Korean Kospi is trading up by 0.15%. Taiwan index is trading with a gain of 0.38%.
On Friday, top gainers were Infosys, ONGC, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, and LTIMindtree. Cipla, Apollo Hospital, Bajaj Finserv, UltraTech Cement, and Power Grid were the top losers.
Oil prices fell on Monday, as traders braced for a supply disruption risk in the Middle East following attacks by US and British forces to prevent the Houthi militia in Yemen from assaulting ships in the Red Sea.
The rupee climbed for the eighth straight session on Friday, rising 6 paise to 82.95 versus the US dollar, helped by a surge in local equities markets.
