Indian benchmark indices ended today’s session with substantial gains, almost near their fresh highs. Nifty 50 closed 157 points higher. Sensex ended with a gain of 529 points.
Markets witnessed an exceptional streak in today’s session, touching fresh highs for another consecutive session. In the last hour of trading, indices shot up to their record-high levels. Sensex hit a new high of 66,656 in today’s trade. Nifty hit a high of 19,731.85.
The Nifty Bank index closed 1.41% higher, led by an upside in HDFC Bank following its Q1 results. The company posted 30% y-o-y growth in net profit. Nifty Auto and Realty were the only indices that closed in the red. All other sectoral indices wrapped up with gains.
SBI, Wipro, Dr Reddy’s, Grasim, and HDFC Bank led the gainers’ chart today. ONGC, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Motors, Titan, and Bharti Airtel were the top losers.
HDFC Bank, Reliance, Infosys, ICICI Bank, and SBI were the most active stocks in terms of value. Most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, HDFC Bank, Wipro, SBI, and ICICI Bank.
A total of 206 stocks touched new 52-week highs, and 26 dipped to new 52-week lows.
