Meta commits $1 million to XR Open Source Fellowship program

To help 100 Indian developers working on extended reality, Meta announced a partnership with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) for the XR Open Source (XROS) fellowship program and committed $1 million (XR).

The program will assist developers in contributing to open-source XR technology projects and lay the groundwork for suitable, cheap solutions localized to Indian languages.

As stated by Nick Clegg, President, of Global Affairs, Meta, “some analysis that we commissioned from an independent think tank estimates that by 2031, the metaverse economy may be worth around 4.6% of India’s GDP.”
