According to news reports, Microsoft Corporation, a major US software company, plans to build a sizable hyperscale data centre in Pune as part of its multi-city data centre strategy for India.
The business’s India division has bought a 25-acre plot of land in the Pimpri-Waghere neighbourhood of the city through a long-term lease transfer arrangement with Finolex Industries, and it intends to build a data centre there.
The Pune-based company has given Microsoft Corporation a 37-year leasehold interest in this piece of land till August 2059. A hyper-scale cloud data centre with a built-out capacity of 100 MW could be erected on the block of land.
This expansion will be in addition to the company’s recent agreement with the Telangana government to work together to create a sizable data centre in Hyderabad. The international corporation intends to invest Rs15,000 crore over the course of the following 15 years over three sites–Chandanvelly, Ellikatta, and Kottur–in Hyderabad’s new data centre area.
It was not possible to determine the overall expenditure in the company’s projected data centre in Pune, but construction is anticipated to begin within the next 24 to 36 months.
According to the records accessed through Propstack, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), the state of Maharashtra’s nodal agency for promoting foreign investment, originally leased the plot of land in Pune to Swastik Rubber Products for 95 years with the option of an additional 95 years.
