Mondelez India, a leading snack company, is expanding its manufacturing plant’s capacity at Sri City in Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy virtually attended the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the expansion project.
The project involved an investment of Rs 1,600 crore and was first announced during the Global Investors Summit (GIS) in Visakhapatnam. Mondelez India plans to build a new chocolate capacity plant to meet the increasing demand in India.
The expanded Sri City plant is expected to become one of Mondelez’s largest production facilities globally and generate employment opportunities in the region over the next three years.
In addition to the plant expansion, the Chief Minister laid the foundation for a groundnut processing unit in Chigicherala village, Dharmavaram, Sri Satya Sai district.
The groundnut processing unit will follow a plug-and-play model, with an investment of Rs 75 crore, supporting the production of various groundnut-based products.
The unit will have a capacity of 55,620 MT and is expected to create employment opportunities for approximately 200 people.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated three tomato processing units in different districts of Andhra Pradesh, namely Kalyandurgam and Kundurpi mandals in Anantapur district and Chennekothapalli in Sri Sathya Sai district.
These processing units, built at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore each, will have an annual capacity of 3,600 tonnes and benefit around 3,588 farmers, facilitating various operations related to tomatoes.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated 43 cold storage facilities and 421 collection centers, with an investment of Rs 63 crore, to provide enhanced post-harvest facilities for farmers.
Additionally, four primary processing centers were inaugurated under Operation Greens for Tomatoes, along with a millet processing unit and 100 onion solar dehydration units under the micro-industries category.
These initiatives and investments by Mondelez India and the government of Andhra Pradesh are expected to boost the state’s economy, promote employment, and enhance agricultural value chains, fostering growth and development in the region.
