Samwardhana Motherson International is set to acquire German high-end polymer parts maker Dr Schneider’s business at an enterprise value of €118 million.
The acquisition aims to expand Motherson’s footprint in the interior polymers business, providing enhanced offerings in premium lighting panels and air vents.
This move comes after Motherson’s recent acquisition of Honda’s Yachiyo sunroof business earlier this month. Dr Schneider Group is known for manufacturing high-end, innovative, and integrated electronic interior polymer components and systems, including smart surfaces and lighting modules.
The group has a strong presence in premium vehicles and operates in 7 facilities across 5 countries. The acquisition aligns with promoter Vivek Chaand Sehgal’s strategy of aggressive inorganic acquisitions, with the company having acquired over two dozen domestic and international businesses.
Motherson aims to leverage the synergies between the two companies and enhance the interior experience in collaboration with automotive OEMs. Dr Schneider reported revenues of nearly €472 million in 2022 and filed for insolvency in September 2022 due to unsuccessful operational and financial restructuring.
Motherson’s acquisition will allow it to gain access to innovative electronic interior polymer components and offer these innovations to other emerging countries and medium segment customers.
In addition to the Dr Schneider acquisition, Motherson had also announced a partnership with Honda Motor and an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Yachiyo’s four-wheeler (Y4W) business, specializing in sunroof systems and fuel tanks.
