On Monday, the Mumbai airport, which is run by the Adani group’s AAI, announced that it had shifted to green energy sources, meeting 95% of its needs with hydro and wind power and the remaining 5% with solar energy.
According to a statement from the private airport operator, the facility saw an increase in the use of green energy, going from 57% in April to an astounding 98% from May to July. In August, 100% of the facility’s energy came from renewable sources.
As part of efforts to lessen its carbon footprint, Mumbai Airport was the first in India to introduce hybrid technology, which has been entirely powered by green energy since April. This has enabled an effective and low-carbon future for aviation, it claimed.
According to the statement, in April of this year, the airport increased the amount of green energy it was using and installed a 10Kwp hybrid solar mill consisting of a 2 Kwp turbo mill and 8 Kwp solar PV modules, with an expected minimum solar and wind energy generation of 36Kwh/day.
According to the statement, the airport will move closer to its goal of achieving net zero by 2029 thanks to this environmentally friendly switch to renewable energy, which will result in a yearly reduction of almost 1.20 lakh tonnes of CO2 equivalent.
According to Mumbai Airport, out of the total 100%, the airport obtains approximately 5% of its electricity needs through on-site solar generation and the other 95% from other environmentally friendly sources including hydro and wind energy.
According to the statement, the airport operator installed a 1.06 MW rooftop solar power plant that was later scaled up to 4.66 MW.
