Nifty index closed above 26,000 for the first time on September 25, 2024, driven by gains in energy, metal, and media sectors.
Sensex rose by 255.83 points (0.30%) to reach 85,169.87, while Nifty climbed 63.75 points (0.25%) to 26,004.15. Both BSE Sensex and Nifty hit fresh highs, with Sensex peaking at 85,247.42 and Nifty at 26,032.80. Market saw rangebound trading but ended higher due to late-session buying.
Top gainers in Nifty included Power Grid Corp, NTPC, Axis Bank, Grasim Industries, and Bajaj Finserv. Key losers were LTIMindtree, Tech Mahindra, Tata Consumer, Tata Motors, and Titan Company.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices each fell by 0.5%. Power, metal, media, and realty sectors gained 0.5-3%, while FMCG, PSU Bank, and IT sectors dropped 0.5-1%. Around 300 stocks hit their 52-week highs on BSE, including Bajaj Finserv, Blue Star, Bosch, Hindalco, NTPC, Power Grid Corp, and TVS Motor.
