Nifty Closes Below 20,150, Sensex Slips 241 Points

The benchmark indices experienced a decline on September 18 amidst a volatile trading session, with the Nifty closing below the 20,150 mark.

The Sensex recorded a drop of 241.79 points, representing a 0.36% decrease, settling at 67,596.84. Meanwhile, the Nifty saw a decline of 69.80 points, equivalent to a 0.35% decrease, ending the day at 20,122.50. Out of the stocks traded, 1,460 advanced, 1,758 declined, and 126 remained unchanged.

Among the top losers in the Nifty were Hindalco Industries, Jio Financial, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, and Adani Ports, while the gainers included Titan Company, M&M, BPCL, HDFC Life, and Power Grid Corporation.

In the sectoral analysis, the PSU Bank index saw a gain of 3.5%, the power index rose by 1%, the auto index also increased by 1%, and the FMCG index edged up by 0.5%. Conversely, the realty index witnessed a 1% decline, while the bank, IT, pharma, and metals sectors all saw a 0.5% decrease.

Additionally, the BSE midcap index experienced a slight drop of 0.3%, and the Smallcap index dipped by 0.5%.
