Renault Nissan Automotive announced on Thursday that its manufacturing facility in Chennai has reached a production milestone of 25 lakh units. The 600-acre facility serves Nissan and Renault’s needs for both home and international markets.
There have been about 20 Renault and Nissan models released from the plant in the past 13 years.
In addition to meeting domestic demand, the company has sold more than 10 lakh units to 108 different countries, including markets in South-East Asia, South-East Europe, Latin America, New Zealand, Australia, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The first dedicated Alliance facility in the world, Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL), which has its headquarters in Chennai, began operations in 2010.
Moving forward, RNAIPL is preparing to produce six new vehicles, three for Nissan and three for Renault, as stated in the Alliance investment plan.
In a statement, RNAIPL Managing Director Keerthi Prakash told ET, ‘We are confident that these cars, engineered and produced in India, will meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.’
Renault India CEO and MD Venkatram Mamillapalle stated that the alliance is prepared to introduce a lineup of new and improved vehicles, including advanced electric models, by using joint capabilities, resources, and knowledge.
