According to a statement released on Saturday, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) plans to build a 2,400 MW greenfield thermal power plant in the Jharsuguda region of Odisha.
NLC India Limited, a Navaratna firm under the Ministry of Coal, has awarded the EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contract to BHEL to set the 2,400 MW capacity (3×800 MW-stage I) after requesting competitive offers, it said. According to the statement, BHEL’s contract scope encompasses engineering, manufacturing, delivery, erection, and commissioning of equipment for the plant, including boilers, turbines, and generators.
Coal connection is available for the thermal project from NLCIL’s Talabira II and III mines. It stated that Hirakud Reservoir will supply the project’s water needs. The project’s first unit is expected to be commissioned in the fiscal year 2028–2029.
