Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has successfully linked the Panna oilfield in the Arabian Sea to shore through a sub-sea pipeline. This connection has enabled ONGC to save approximately $43,000 per day in transportation costs that were previously incurred in shipping crude oil.
The Panna field, part of ONGC’s Bassein & Satellite (B&S) asset in the western offshore region, currently produces 9,600 barrels of oil per day. By establishing the sub-sea pipeline, ONGC has significantly reduced costs and achieved operational efficiency.
Previously, oil from the Panna field was transported via ships, but now it flows directly to the shore through the new pipeline.
The submarine pipeline connection minimizes production downtime during tanker changeovers and eliminates demurrage charges in adverse weather conditions.
ONGC successfully linked the Panna oilfield in the Arabian Sea to shore through a sub-sea pipeline, resulting in significant cost savings. The project involved laying a 37.50 km submarine pipeline and installing main oil line pumps and booster pumps. The Panna-Mukta oilfield comprises two adjacent offshore fields near Mumbai. This achievement showcases ONGC’s dedication to technological advancement and operational excellence, ensuring long-term success and securing India’s energy interests.
