Data from the State Load Despatch Centre indicated that Tuesday’s peak electricity consumption in Delhi exceeded 7,000 MW as the city’s temperatures climbed. The national capital’s peak demand reached 7,098 MW, the highest level this summer.
However, because of western disturbances that have held the summer temperatures in check, the city’s peak demand thus far is still lower than it was last year. On June 29 of last year, the peak demand was 7,695 MW.
There were nine occasions in June of last year when Delhi’s power demand topped 7,000 MW.
Despite ideal weather conditions, the demand this summer hasn’t been as great as previously anticipated. This summer, Delhi’s peak power demand has fluctuated greatly, reaching a high of 4,390 MW on June 1.
