Reliance Jio, led by Mukesh Ambani, launches Jio Bharat V2 phone, a low-cost internet-enabled device. The Jio Bharat V2 phone is priced at Rs 999.
Beta trial for the first one million units of the phone begins on July 7. Reliance Jio introduces Jio Bharat platform, a new operating system, which other phone brands like Karbonn will adopt. The company aims to address the digital divide among 250 million feature phone users in India.
Jio Bharat V2 phones offer high-quality and affordable data services. Jio also announces a bundled monthly plan priced at Rs 123, which is 30% cheaper than competitors’ plans. The plan includes 14 GB of free data, seven times more than what competitors offer. Jio’s annual plan costs Rs 1,234, and both plans provide unlimited calling.
The upcoming beta trials will ensure platform scalability and efficient upgrading processes for millions of feature phone users. Trials will be conducted across 6,500 tehsils.
The phone is locked to the Jio network and supports UPI payments through JioPay. Users will have access to JioCinema for movies, videos, and sports entertainment, as well as JioSaavn with over 80 million songs in multiple languages.
Reliance Jio’s initiative aims to bridge the digital divide and provide affordable data and digital resources to economically weaker segments of the population.
