On Monday, the Renault Nissan alliance, a Franco-Japanese automobile collaboration, announced that it has entered into an agreement with Kamarajar Port Ltd to export cars made in Chennai by Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd.
Cars produced at the Chennai facility will be shipped to the alliance’s regional and international destinations.
According to a statement from the alliance, the agreement strengthens the already established collaboration between the Renault Nissan Alliance and Kamarajar Port Ltd (KPL), paving the way for more car exports through KPL.
The agreement was signed in the presence of several key figures, including Nissan Motor India President Frank Torres, KPL Chairman and Managing Director Sunil Paliwal, Renault India Operations Country CEO and Managing Director Venkatram Mamillapalle, and RNAIPL Managing Director Keerthi Prakash.
Torres, the President of Nissan Motor India, stated that Chennai is a significant export center for the company and that they have been adhering to the ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ principle from the start to cater global markets.
Torres mentioned that the alliance is constantly expanding the number of export destinations for vehicles produced at the Oragadam plant in Chennai. He also stated that this is in addition to achieving the milestone of exporting one million cars in 2022.
