SEBI green signals appointment of Ramamurthy as MD -; CEO of BSE

According to a disclosure made by the exchange, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) approved the appointment of Sundararaman Ramamurthy as managing director and chief executive officer of the BSE on Monday. According to the disclosure, this appointment is subject to shareholder approval.

According to social media accounts, Ramamurthy previously served as senior vice president of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), after which he became a Chief Operating Officer at Bank of America, India.

The top position at BSE has been vacant since July, when its previous managing director, Ashish Kumar Chauhan, resigned to become CEO of rival exchange NSE.

SS Mundra, a former deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India, is the current chairman of the BSE. Aside from Ramamurthy, the board has six other directors, five of whom are public interest directors and one of whom is a shareholder director.
