For the first time since supplies were cut off in May, German company Sefe will send two cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the Indian gas company GAIL (India) Ltd in March and April, according to chairman Sandeep Gupta.
In Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States, according to Gupta, Sefe supplies cargoes from its non-Russian portfolio.
‘They are offering us (LNG) from non-Russian portfolio because they cannot supply from Russia due to force majeure,’ Gupta told reporters.
He stated that the Dahej terminal in western India had already received the first shipment for March.
In 2012, GAIL and Gazprom Marketing and Singapore (GMTS) reached a 20-year agreement for the purchase of an average of 2.5 million tonnes of LNG annually.
At the time, GMTS was a division of Gazprom Germania, which is now known as Sefe. However, once Western sanctions were placed on Moscow as a result of its invasion of Ukraine last year, the Russian parent company handed up ownership of Sefe.
In order to meet its own need, Sefe halted providing LNG to the Indian company in May of last year.
