Indian equity markets closed higher for the third consecutive session on September 23, with Nifty surpassing 25,900 points.
The Sensex rose by 384.30 points (0.45%), finishing at 84,928.61, while the Nifty gained 148.05 points (0.57%) to close at 25,939. A total of 2,274 shares advanced, 1,661 shares declined, and 118 remained unchanged.
Top gainers in the Nifty included M&M, ONGC, Bajaj Auto, SBI Life Insurance, and Hero MotoCorp. Conversely, major losers were Eicher Motors, Divis Labs, ICICI Bank, Tech Mahindra, and IndusInd Bank.
Sector performance showed the PSU Bank index up over 3%, and the Realty index increased by more than 2%. Other sectors like auto, energy, FMCG, metal, pharma, and media rose between 0.5% and 1%, while the Information Technology index fell by 0.5%.
Both the BSE midcap and smallcap indices climbed by 0.7%, indicating positive market sentiment. The consistent upward trend reflects investor confidence amid ongoing economic recovery and growth opportunities in various sectors.
