Shakti Pumps Secures Rs 149.71 Crore Order under PM-KUSUM Scheme for Solar Pump Sets

9 Oct 2023 , 01:56 PM

Shakti Pumps secured a significant order worth Rs 149.71 crore under the PM-KUSUM scheme. This order falls under component C of the government scheme, marking a milestone for Shakti Pumps. The company announced its first commercial order under PM-KUSUM component-C, coming from Ajmer Viduyt Vitran Nigam Limited.

The project involves replacing inefficient electric pump sets with BLDC solar pump sets, utilizing solar power, and allowing surplus electricity to be fed back into the grid. This initiative benefits farmers nationwide by improving irrigation, reducing reliance on conventional energy, and enabling income from excess power sales to distribution companies (discoms).

Shakti Pumps Chairman Dinesh Patidar highlights the transformation, turning farmers from food providers into energy providers. Discoms can recover the pump set cost in 5 years through energy savings, while farmers can earn substantial income by selling surplus power.

The PM-KUSUM scheme empowers farmers, enhances irrigation capacity, and reduces dependence on traditional energy sources, ensuring energy security for Indian farmers. Launched in 2019, PM-KUSUM aims to add 30,800 MW of solar capacity by 2022 with central financial support totaling Rs 34,422 crore.

The scheme consists of three components: A for small power plant installations, B for standalone solar-powered agriculture pumps, and C for solarization of grid-connected agriculture pumps. The scheme’s extension till March 2026 was announced in February, considering the pandemic’s impact on implementation.
