Siemens announced the launch of a private industrial 5G router on Thursday, a critical component for the manufacturing industry’s digital transformation journey.
If no 5G networks are available, the device will automatically switch to 4G or 3G networks.
Private industrial 5G applications provide long-term benefits to a diverse range of customer segments, including intra-logistics, autonomous machines, the industrial edge, remote diagnostics, augmented reality, assisted work, wireless backhaul, edge computing, and mobile equipment.
While most consumer applications prioritize high data rates, industrial networks prioritize low latency and high availability.
Scalance MUM856-1 and MUM853-1 industrial 5G routers from Siemens will enable enhanced Mobile broadband transmission, massive machine-type communication, and ultra-reliable low latencies.
Scalance MUM856-1 provides high bandwidths of up to 1000 Mbps for the downlink and up to 500 Mbps for the uplink, allowing for high data rates for data-intensive applications such as remote firmware update implementation.
Local industrial applications are linked to public 5G, 4G (LTE), and 3G (UMTS) mobile wireless networks via routers.
These can be used to remotely monitor and service plants, machines, control elements, and other industrial devices via a public 5G network, allowing for greater flexibility and higher data rates.
