A top official said on Tuesday that SpiceJet has been placed under ‘enhanced surveillance’ by the aviation authority DGCA due to the budget airline’s recent struggles with its finances.
SpiceJet, however, denied any such development. Several lessors are attempting to reclaim aircraft that they had leased to SpiceJet, and some of those instances have already been resolved thanks to the airline.
SpiceJet has been under increased monitoring by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for more than three weeks, and the procedure is still underway, the official told PTI.
The regulatory official claims that additional nighttime surveillance and spot checks are part of the heightened surveillance.
The official spoke to PTI on the condition of anonymity and stated that the goal was to make sure that there would be no ‘cutting corners’ on safety and that there would be no potential negative effects on the flight operations owing to financial concerns.
The official stated that the increased surveillance would also be used to determine whether or not safety obligations are being met.
When contacted, a SpiceJet representative stated that ‘the information is completely false and is categorically denied.’
The airline has not received such a message from the DGCA, the spokeswoman stated in a statement.
SpiceJet, which has been dealing with a number of challenges, has resolved the problems with a few aircraft lessors.
The airline announced on June 21 that it has reached a settlement deal with Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC), the lessor of its Q400 aircraft.
