Sterlite Power announced the completion of its sixth transmission project in Brazil, which cost Rs 1,600 crore.
According to a business statement, the project, Marituba, entailed creating a 344-km 500kV transmission corridor connecting Brazil’s largest hydropower plant at Tucurui to the metropolitan district of Belem for delivering up to 1000 MW of green energy.
Sterlite Power has established a strong presence in Brazil since its entry in 2017, acquiring 13 projects through a greenfield global auction procedure.
The company currently has a strong portfolio of eight power transmission projects, six of which it has developed, totaling over 2000 kilometers of transmission lines and 22 substations.
The Marituba project is fully interconnected to the Brazilian National Grid’s National Interconnected System (SIN). It is Sterlite Power Brazil’s largest power transmission project, located in the Amazon region. It has passed through 15 cities and 27 Quilombola Afro-Brazilian settlements, creating over 2000 jobs in the region and significantly influencing the Brazilian economy and people.
