Under the ‘Mobility for All’ project, Ashok Leyland, a manufacturer of commercial vehicles, secured an order for 552 buses from the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) for Rs 500.97 crore. The business announced this information in a regulatory filing on December 21.
For a total consideration of Rs 500.97 crore, Ashok Leyland would supply completely built, state-of-the-art, 552 BS VI diesel fuel type, 12-meter UltraLow Entry rear engine buses for city operations.
In accordance with the agreement, Ashok Leyland will carry out the order between April and July of 2024.
The automaker claimed in a news release that it was the most popular brand among TNSTC, with over 18,477 Ashok Leyland buses in service.
The statement continued, ‘The new ULE buses feature state-of-the-art features like an Intelligent Transportation System with CCTV, destination boards reflecting vehicle location, and tracking, as well as a powerful H-series 6-cylinder 4-valve 184 kW (246 hp) engine, step-less entry, rear engine configuration, automatic gearbox, front disc brake and electronically controlled front and rear air suspension.’
‘Our ULE buses represent the epitome of technology and safety in the commercial vehicle segment,’ stated Sanjeev Kumar, President, M&HCV, Ashok Leyland.
The German Development Bank (KfW) is funding the project, and Ashok Leyland will start delivering the buses in April 2024.
