Tata Motors gets a new chief strategic officer

According to news reports, Balaje Rajan will join Tata Motors’ passenger car division as a chief strategic officer and head of worldwide operations. He will start next month, a Tata Motors spokesperson confirmed to ET.

Rajan has been the Tata Strategic Management Group’s practice head for automotive and engineering since October 2017. He will be accountable for the strategy function at both the internal combustion engine and electric vehicle businesses and will report to Shailesh Chandra, managing director of Tata Passenger Vehicle and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM).

He will also come up with a strategy for expanding Tata Motors into foreign markets. The business views the electrification movement as a chance to explore even some of the established areas.

Balaje’s appointment comes at a time when Tata Motors’ EV division is pursuing plans to introduce numerous EV models over the next few years in order to maintain the top spot in the e-passenger vehicle market and stay at the forefront of the ICE business, where it has firmly established its position as the third largest PV manufacturer.
