Tata Motors Limited (Tata Motors) announced that it has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to develop a new 12MWp on-site solar project at Tata Motors’ Pune commercial vehicle manufacturing facility with Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a leading player in the renewable energy sector and a subsidiary of Tata Power, reiterating Tata Group’s vision of preserving environmental sustainability through its unique manufacturing practices.
The installation, a significant step toward green manufacturing, is estimated to create 17.5 million units of power each year, meeting roughly 17.2% of the annualized requirement and potentially offsetting over 12400 tonnes/kWh of carbon emissions per year.
The solar project will be operational six months after the PPA is signed and will contribute significantly to Tata Motors’ long-term goals.
Rooftop installations will be included in the PPA. This 12MWp adds to Tata Motors’ current 8.73MWp, for a total of 20.73MWp across CVBU (Commercial Vehicle), Pune. To accommodate the increased demand for renewable energy, the business intends to expand the solar capacity of its Pune plant over the next five years.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited and Tata Motors Limited previously partnered to create a 16MWp solar power facility in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, which is expected to be the state’s largest in terms of capacity.
