At the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, Tata Motors Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran announced plans to build a lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in Sanand, northern Gujarat. With an initial capacity of 20 gigawatt hours, the factory aims to meet the increasing demand for electric vehicles.
Chandrasekaran highlighted Gujarat as the gateway to the future, expressing the company’s commitment to expand its presence in the state. The investment will be implemented in two phases, with construction expected to commence in the coming months.
The move follows Tata Motors’ acquisition of Ford India’s Sanand plant in November, which added to its manufacturing capacity, enabling the production of electric vehicles.
