Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, will build a 41 MW captive solar plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The new solar plant is for TP Solar’s new 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli.
The captive plant will generate 101 million units of electricity per year and offset approximately 72,000 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The solar project will be operational 12 months after the Project Development Agreement (PDA) is signed.
TPREL has formed TP Govardhan Creatives Limited, a specialist entity tasked with developing, operating, and maintaining this facility for TP Solar Ltd.
The manufacturing factory of TP Solar is expected to begin commercial production of cells and modules in FY 24-25. Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited’s subsidiary is TP Solar Ltd.
TPREL’s overall capacity will increase to 7,877 MW with the addition of this new captive solar facility, including 3,720 MW of projects in various stages of completion and an operational capacity of 4,157 MW, comprised of 3,154 MW solar energy and 1,003 MW wind energy.
