Tata Power, a leading energy company, revealed on August 21 that its subsidiary, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), has inked a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to establish a 9MWp on-campus solar project at Tata Motors Limited’s Pantnagar factory in Uttarakhand. This solar initiative is poised to become the largest campus-based solar facility within the state, as confirmed through a regulatory filing by the company.
Tata Motors’ commitment to a sustainable future is evidenced by the anticipated carbon emissions reduction of 25 tonnes of CO2/kWp in Uttarakhand, achieved through the implementation of this solar project. The solar installation project is anticipated to be operational within six months from the date of PPA execution.
TPREL and Tata Motors had previously collaborated on a 7MWp solar project at the Pantnagar production facility. This recent addition elevates the cumulative solar capacity of the Pantnagar plant to 16MWp. According to reports, these solar installations are anticipated to generate 224 lakh units annually, fulfilling nearly 60 % of the plant’s annual energy requirements.
Tata Power highlighted that TPREL’s aggregate renewable capacity is expected to reach 7,783MW, with 3,651MW of projects currently progressing across various developmental stages. The company’s existing operational capacity stands at 4,132MW, encompassing 993MW from diverse sources and 3,139MW of solar power.
Ashish Khanna, CEO of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, underscored that the 9MWp solar power project underscores their commitment to advancing the widespread adoption of eco-friendly clean energy solutions across different industries. Srinath Sharma, Plant Head at Tata Motors Limited’s Pantnagar facility, further emphasized the significance of this solar endeavor in their manufacturing operations. He mentioned that the project aligns with its sustainability objectives by reducing reliance on fossil fuels and facilitating cost savings in electricity consumption.
