Tata Steel informed to the media that on December 18, it has successfully executed the implosion of two obsolete units of coke plant at its Jamshedpur-based production facility.
According to the press release of the company, the coke plant units, which had turned obsolete, will be replaced with advanced versions that are equipped with the ‘latest technology’ and are environmental-friendly. This is the ‘first-of-kind engineering process in the world’, the company said.
The Company is replacing the existing Coke Oven Batteries 5, 6 and 7 (combined capacity of 1MnTPA) with new Coke Oven Batteries 6A and 6B (combined capacity of 1MnTPA) in Jamshedpur, with the latest and advanced technology and higher energy efficiency,’ Tata Steel said on Sunday.
Notably, the implosions were carried out with the help of the contract partner, Edifice Engineering India, and supported by Jet Demolition South Africa.
“We have completed a crucial step of safe, scheduled and controlled implosions of obsolete coke plant facilities. This is a testimony to our commitment to operational efficiency, safety, resource optimization and sustainable growth strategy”, commented Sanjiv Paul, Vice President (Safety, Health & Sustainability) of Tata Steel on the development.
Tata Steel’s flagship Jamshedpur plant is India’s first ResponsibleSteel certified site and among the first steel plants in Asia. It is the only facility in India to produce steel at the same site continuously for over 100 years. This plant is recognized as a Global Lighthouse by World Economic Forum for adopting Industry 4.0 technologies and is a national benchmark in sustainability.
On Monday, at around 12:16 PM, Tata Steel was trading at Rs111.20 per share higher by Rs0.20 or 0.18% on the BSE.
