The Union Cabinet approves a third revival package worth Rs.89,047 crore for BSNL

The Union Cabinet approved a third revival package of Rs.89,047 crore for BSNL. The package includes an allotment of 4G/5G spectrum through equity infusion. BSNL’s authorized capital will increase from Rs.1.5 lakh to Rs.2.1 lakh crore.

BSNL has 4G coverage in many areas and is close to covering the entire country. The government wants BSNL to be a stable telecom service provider focused on remote connectivity.

The first revival package for BSNL/MTNL was approved in 2019, worth Rs.69,000 crore. In 2022, the second revival package for BSNL/MTNL was approved, worth Rs.1.64 lakh crore.

BSNL has started earning operating profits since FY 2021-22, and its debt has been reduced.
