Volatility Takes Toll: Nifty Holds Steady Around 19,300 as Benchmark Indices Close Lower

In a volatile trading session on August 18, benchmark indices concluded the day with losses, with the Nifty hovering around the 19,300 mark.

By the market’s close, the Sensex experienced a decline of 202.36 points or 0.31%, settling at 64,948.66. Similarly, the Nifty saw a reduction of 55.10 points or 0.28%, finishing at 19,310.20. Among the listed stocks, 1523 witnessed gains, 1978 faced declines, and 133 remained unchanged.

Noteworthy underperformers on the Nifty included Hero MotoCorp, TCS, Coal India, Hindalco Industries, and Tech Mahindra. In contrast, Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, Eicher Motors, Maruti Suzuki, and Nestle India were among the gainers.

With the exception of the FMCG and Power sectors, all other sectoral indices concluded the session in negative territory. The Information Technology index saw a decline of 1.5%, while the Metal index experienced a drop of nearly 1%.

Both the BSE midcap and smallcap indices wrapped up the day on a negative trajectory.
