In 2001 Chetan started his own company “CHATTERBOX INDIA P. LTD.” Today apart from Voice Design, the company is also working as a Creative Hot Shop. The most recent achievement was winning the Indo American Society's YOUNG ACHIEVER AWARD in field of voicing & CNBC TV-18 Golden CURSOR AWARD for Best voicing in Animation.

When did you realise that you can/ want to pursue voicing as a full fledged career?


When I realized that I could earn a month’s salary in a day and a year’s salary in a month, my inner voices could not take it anymore. They screamed from within “This is what you are born for!!” I put in my papers and my hobby became my profession.


Your biggest high of Voicing career?


When you are voicing for advertising TVC; everyday is a new challenge everyday a new high.

If you create one high the next one has to be higher. VOICING for campaigns like Times of India A Day in the Life of…. Campaign, Kya aap Close-up Karte Hain, Amaron Last long really long.., Fevicol, Fevikwik, Hindustan Times…

Oh! The oxygen level is dropping. 

Personally when I did the character of GENIE in Disneys Alladin the animation movie Hindi version the experience was truly challenging and satisfying.


What are the skills needed to pursue this career?


“Know thyself, Know thy VOICE”.

Important Skills Talent, Intuition and Innovation. The patience to listen and the will to learn.


What were the downs/ frustrations/ struggle of your career so far?


Every individual has a bridge in his life. When he is on the bridge everyone can see him. So every individual should work towards making his bridge the longest so that he is always seen. The search to find my bridge was my struggle. Initial rejections were frustrating. If my phone doesn’t ring for more than an hour then it’s DOWN time.


Can anybody learn this art of voicing or is it a GOD's gift?


Why not! It will be the learning voice acting and modulation within the limitations of your voice.

But the ability to change one’s voice completely is GOD’s GIFT that can’t be taught. One has to do a lot of introspection and find out whether he does possess that talent. 


What are the opportunities available?


Today the field of voicing has grown by leaps and bounds. Everyday some new medium comes to life. Every medium does require a voice.  RJ, VJ, Features, Documentries, Advertising, Animation, Corporate A.Vs, IVR, ……so many avenues.

There is a lot of competition so if you have to be heard you have to be damn good at your job.


Can we learn voice modulation?


Yes you can.


Why do you think voice modulation has become so important?


A man is known by the voice he speaks.  Conversation in monotonous tone gives rise to boredom. Hence voice modulation or voice acting is extremely important.

In every profession where speech is involved voice modulation comes in.

 

Importance of voice modulation in corporates?


Voice modulation is the heart of effective Communication Skills. In corporates at all levels right from interview level to presentations to board meetings you are all the time speaking. You may not have a good voice but modulation can make it sound better and make communication more effective.

 

Which are the good places to learn voice modulation?


“The Bathroom”.

 

Is there any age for getting into this field?


Age no limit. But as a profession it’s a risk you have to take. Every voice has a shelf-life. If your stars are good then sky is the limit.

Keep reinventing yourself and be a student for life.
