WD will launch this initiative as a part of the SMILE Foundation’s annual ‘Ramp for Champs’ event to be held at ITC Grand Central in Mumbai on Sunday, February 17th, 2013
WD, a Western Digital company and a world leader in hard drives, will once again support the cause of education for underprivileged kids in India through its association with the SMILE Foundation, a national level development organization.
In a country with over 3mn homeless kids, the future of the country is in doubt along with the aspirations of these kids. To show support for these brave little souls and do its part for a better future, WD will sponsor the education for 125 such special children for a year. WD will launch this initiative as a part of the SMILE Foundation’s annual ‘Ramp for Champs’ event to be held at ITC Grand Central in Mumbai on Sunday, February 17th, 2013. The event will see eminent people from various facets of society coming together for the cause of education of the less privileged and will walk the ramp with a special child. A number of well-known Bollywood celebrities including the likes of actress Kajol, author Chetan Bhagat, singer Mohit Chauhan, and fashion photographer Daboo Ratnani will be showing their support for the cause this year. WD’s Senior Sales Director for the region, Khwaja Saifuddin, will also attend the event to reinforce WD’s commitment to the cause.
Time and again WD has believed in showing solidarity for a worthy cause. Last year WD initiated a ‘Green Drive’ in association with Lucknow based NGO – JAAZ to mark the World Environment Day. Through the initiative, the company undertook to transform a piece of arid land in Malihabad, U.P., by planting hundreds of trees over a span of four weeks. WD extended the drive to major traffic signals in Delhi and NCR regions, with a group of volunteers handing out leaflets made of eco-friendly material with tips on conserving fuel. Later in the year on Diwali, WD had partnered with the SMILE foundation to help spread the festive cheer to underprivileged kids of about 300 families living in slums around Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi.
WD a well-known brand and a world leader in products and services that empower people to create, manage, experience and preserve digital content, believes in giving back to the society and working towards a sustainable future.
