Puri: Domestic flights airfare caps to go once airlines reach pre-Covid; Aviation stocks trade mix

Union civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri has stated that domestic flights airfare caps may go when the summer schedule kicks in from April, in a reply to a question asked in Rajya Sabha.

Puri states that capping airfares on domestic flights was an “extraordinary measure”, however, can be done away when airlines reach pre-Covid levels.

In the parliament, Puri said that it can not be in an open, deregulated market situation to have fare bands (as) a permanent feature.

Fare bands are limits within which the domestic airlines have to operate their flights.

At around 2.13 pm, SpiceJet was trading at Rs87.95 per piece flat compared to the previous closing. However, Interglobe Aviation (Indigo) was performing at Rs1614.60 per piece down by Rs8.45 or 0.5% on Sensex.
