Maruti’s production of passenger vehicles declines 19% yoy in July 2020

Production of passenger cars goes down 21.89%; however, Mini cars (Alto, S-Presso) production was 23% higher.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited reported a production of 107,687 (Passenger vehicles + Light Commercial Vehicles) in July 2020 as compared to 133,265 in July 2019.  This was a decrease of 19% yoy. The auto maker on Friday also reported a production of passenger vehicles was most at 105,345 however; again lower to 130,541 in July 2019.

It produced 77,507 passenger cars in July 2020 compared to 99,230 in July 2019, a decrease of 21.89%.  Utility Vehicles (Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, XL6) production was at 19,130 in July 2020 compared to 19,464 in July 2019. Vans (Eeco) production was also lower at 8,708 compared to 11,847 yoy.

In the mini plus compact sub segment the company produced 76,028 cars as compared to 95,733 in July 2019. Mini cars (Alto, S-Presso) production was 23% higher at 20,638 compared to 16,735 yoy. Compact cars (WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Baleno, Dzire , OEM Model) production was also lower at 55,390 compared to 78,998 in July 2019.

Covid-19 continues to impact the production despite considerable increase since the most affected months of April and May.

“The above production data also includes production from Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited and vehicles manufactured for sale to other OEM,” company said in its regulatory filing.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is currently trading at Rs6,641.40 down by Rs38.15 or 0.57% from its previous closing of Rs6,679.55 on the BSE.
