Sensex recovers from day’s low; Metal stocks rally

Vedanta, BPCL, Tata Steel and Hindalco among top gainers, losers included M&M, Axis Bank, Infratel, UPL and ICICI Bank.

Equity benchmark indices recovered from the day’s low, Sensex was still trading below the 31,000-mark dragged down by auto and bank stocks and the Nifty50 index was hovering at the 9,100 level. The government’s economic package failed to impress investors already worried about rising coronavirus cases and poor corporate earnings reports have weighted the indices.

The Sensex slipped 150 points at 30,972.47 and the Nifty50 was trading at 9,112.60, down 30 points.

The Nifty Metal index gained led by SAIL, Vedanta, NMDC and Hindustan Zinc.

Vedanta, BPCL, Tata Steel and Hindalco among top gainers, losers included M&M, Axis Bank, Infratel, UPL and ICICI Bank.

India VIX is trading at 38.17, down marginally in the afternoon session.

The rupee has ended at 75.57 against the US Dollar.

Uttam Value Steel, Cox & Kings, Sadbhav Engineering, Tata Global, A2Z Infra and Tejas Networks among others have hit a lower circuit on the BSE.
