Ukraine issued a 48-hour deadline for Russia to explain its military drills, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said

Tensions in Ukraine increased sharply on Thursday, with Russia embarking on new military drills near the border after Ukrainian forces said they killed five pro-Russian militants, according to media reports.
Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the Ukrainian actions. Ukraine issued a 48-hour deadline for Russia to explain its military drills, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said Thursday. However no further details were provided, the reports added.
The US Army is sending four companies of 150 paratroopers each to Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia this week to conduct training exercises.
