The broader market demonstrated resilience compared to the benchmark indices, as evidenced by the BSE MidCap index edging up by 0.05% and the BSE SmallCap index rising by 0.57%.
On Monday, the rupee fell 6 paise to 83.44 versus the US dollar, reflecting significant losses in equities markets.
At the end of trading, the Sensex dropped by 845.12 points or 1.14% to 73,399.78, while the Nifty declined by 246.90 points or 1.10% to 22,272.50. Of the total stocks traded, 761 advanced, 2,636 declined, and 102 remained unchanged.
On the nifty index, Divis Lab, Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors, TCS, and Nestle India were the top gainers on Friday.
All sectoral indices ended the day in the red, with bank, healthcare, FMCG, media, realty, and oil & gas sectors declining by 1% each.
On the nifty index, Coal India, BPCL, ITC, Kotak Bank, and Hindalco ended as the top gainers.
Except for the pharmaceutical sector, all other sectoral indices closed in the green, with media, FMCG, metal, and oil & gas sectors rising by 1-2%.
